DUI Court is a type of problem-solving court that allows certain people charged with specific crimes to undergo treatment and rehabilitation instead of only receiving traditional punishment.

DUI Courts

Florida offers DUI courts for eligible individuals. However, the availability of such programs varies depending on the city and locality, so what is available in one place may not be available in another.

How it works

Generally, a person is eligible for DUI Court if such program is available and they qualify. To qualify, the courts look at the severity of the individual’s offense, their criminal history and whether they intend to use this opportunity to improve and not repeat the offense.

Drug Court typically offers:

  • Substance abuse treatment
  • Counseling
  • Support groups

Usually these programs last from several months to over a year, depending on the person and their individual needs and progress. If they graduate from Drug Court, they may receive reduced legal penalties or dismissal of the charges.

Benefits of DUI Court

The benefits of going through DUI Court are many. While these courts are not available everywhere, they are helpful, and people who go through them can succeed in rehabilitating and never commit additional crimes.

DUI Courts in Florida provide an opportunity for individuals facing DUI charges to get help with rehabilitation and reintegration into society. If you find yourself in a situation where this is an option, you should discuss it with an experienced attorney who can help.
